Biography

Adam Williams was born in the Bay Area of California and attended California State University at Sacramento where he received his BA in Digital Media, with minors in Film Studies and Pan African Studies. As a student Adam was committed to servicing the diverse communities in the Sacramento and Bay Areas. He is a PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin and studies the relationship between contemporary media and people of African descent throughout the African Diaspora. He has studied the use of mobile phones and other media technologies in Ghana, South Africa, and Trinidad & Tobago.  His dissertation examines performances of ‘Black masculinity’ through the use of digital media.  Adam is the co-founder of the Black Media Council, an Austin-based organization that focuses on media literacy and community empowerment.
