Crystle is a postdoctoral research fellow for the Connected Learning Research Network at the Digital Media and Learning Hub at University of California, Irvine, working with Professor Mizuko (Mimi) Ito. She finished her PhD in Curriculum & Instruction specializing in Digital Media from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2012, with Professor Constance Steinkuehler. Her dissertation focused on learning and information literacy practices in the community of the massively multiplayer game World of Warcraft. It is being published as a book entitled Voyage across a constellation of information: Information literacy in interest-driven learning communities in the Peter Lang series New Literacies and Digital Epistemologies, which will be out in late 2013. Her research focuses on youth learning in fan communities, specializing in information literacy and connected learning, and how those skills, if valued in academic settings, can create a more equitable education system. Along with this she researches collective intelligence and peer-support in digital communities. She is currently exploring connected learning in the WWE Universe including forums and fantasy wrestling, as well as the use of communication, literacy and information literacy practices in the constellation of information for single player games.
